An inclusive website redesign for Autism NI, to help promote their vital charity work and drive donations
Autism NI is Northern Ireland’s longest serving autism charity and training provider, with a mission to support autistic people and their families, and campaign for autism acceptance within society.
I led the redesign of the Autism NI website, with the goal of better reflecting their mission, driving engagement towards vital donations, and promoting the training and events they provide to those closest to people with autism - from parents, to professionals.
Accessibility and usability were the primary objectives of the project. Given the diverse audience, the experience needed to remain clear and user-friendly for a wide range of users, including autistic individuals and those supporting them.

The challenge
During an audit of the existing website, several user experience challenges became clear -
Navigation and site structure: The site lacked intuitive navigation and effective signposting - users were often directed to large landing pages filled with numerous cards, which made it difficult to quickly find the most relevant content.
Limited visual identity: Despite Autism NI’s long-standing role and impact in the community, the website's visual language did not reflect the passion, care, and authority of the organisation.
Lack of visible impact and credibility: There was an opportunity to better highlight the real-world impact of Autism NI’s work., and help users understand how donations make a difference.
Key actions were not clearly prioritised: Training courses, fundraising events, and the charity shop are central to Autism NI’s work. However, pathways to these areas were not always clearly surfaced or integrated throughout the site, making it harder for users to discover and engage with them.

A platform designed to support, inform, and engage
The result is a more impactful and user-focused digital presence that reflects Autism NI’s role as a leading voice in autism advocacy. Usability and accessibility were central throughout the design process. The new interface is clean, clear, and easy to navigate, ensuring the site remains accessible to its audience while delivering a more modern and engaging visual experience.
The updated homepage provides stronger signposting to key areas of support, helping users find the information they need more quickly. Combined with a restructured navigation, the new site enables users to find content with more confidence and ease.
